The Hydraulic Devices before Restoration
Summer 2003
The visible hydraulic devices seem in descent condition
There is still hydraulic fluid but it's more black than green!
That's almost all we can see from the underbody when the hydraulic system is not operational
Hydraulic leak, water leak or both? Probably both, and even more ;-)
Restoration Program
Summer 2003- Removal and restoration of all hydraulic devices
- Replacement of all hydraulic pipe gaskets
- Replacement of all spheres
- Reassembling when body work is completed
Goals, Doubts and Dreams
Summer 2003- One more time, my goal is not to replace every part
- I'll have to find a way to restore the hydraulic pipes, some of them are in very bad shape (rust). Many pipes can be found as new
- I hope I'll be able to keep the main devices, avoiding massive and costly replacements (especially for the steering rack, hydraulic pump and regulator)Restoration
Summer 2003When I started the engine, everything was working but the rear suspension boots quickly began leaking. I just had enough time to drive the car out and then back in the opposite way (it's more practical this way).
We just start to have a better view and discover for example the brake calipers
What am I going to do with all these pipes? :-))
The priority valve is somewhere nearby I believe ;-)
Even after the engine removal, there is still a lot of pipes!
No comment ...
That's it, everything has been removed

By September 2005, I start working on the hydraulic devices. I start with the clutch cylinder and the front brake calipers:
The clutch cylinder is not difficult to disassemble...
... but removing the inner gasket is a nightmare, I had to use dentist tools!
Here is a front brake caliper, after cleaning and brushing
Disassembling and deeper cleaning. Here, gaskets are easy to remove
Cleaning (it was very dirty inside) and then replacement of all gaskets and felt joints
Here is the result, after reassembling using a torque wrench

I work on painting the devices I'll keep (for the hydraulic pump, I'll go for an overhaul, so no paint for the moment) and I start preparing the hydraulic pipes for zinc-plating, so a lot of cleaning, sandblasting and brushing work, again. Here is the result during spring 2006:
I had Sikkens paint cans specially made with the AC 502 green paint reference, I'm very happy with the result
The first hydraulic pipes after cleaning, sandblasting and brushing. For the moment, result is good
